A man who enjoys the art in everything:

Hello and welcome!

My name is Aaron and I’m the founder of Art Monu. Thank you for supporting me and my art brand by joining the email list that, led you here where I hope to give you a little insight on whom you’re supporting, a quick autobiography if you will. It’s always been hard to openly talk about myself but I’m excited to start sharing my story in hopes that it impacts others.

I was born in Tampa, Florida circa ‘92 (I’m not a “Florida Man” though). When I was born I was adopted by my parents, a lesbian couple who happened to be white (more on this in another post) which made for an interesting dynamic given the far less-than-liberal Florida in the 90s. After they split up when I was 5, I spent my time between Florida and Nevada, immersing myself in nature and learning its true beauty. Apart from my love of nature, visual art was part of my DNA from a young age, from drawing, to painting, to building - I‘ve always expressed myself through art (and later fashion). However, teachers and counselors always told me that being able to draw, paint, design, take photos, etc., weren't feasible career paths nor was that space reserved for just “anyone.” This belief later led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Biology/Health Sciences, even though I secretly knew my destiny was on a far different path.

In college, I decided that I wouldn’t even use my degree, and pursued a career in the men’s tailoring world. I loved the art of hand-made clothing and in college, apprenticed with a few tailors and was soon introduced to what would be my first career in the custom clothing industry that led to a 5-year career in New York under some amazing brands. Fast forward to Quarantine 2020, like many people I was let go and forced to figure something out. I've always wanted to build something under my name and for some reason starting a business in the middle of a pandemic sounded like the most logical move - so here we are, pursuing art and design via Art Monu.

Art Monu has been a concept since 2013 and is now a reality that I’m extremely proud of. The brand was started to share my vision for good design and to expand the definition of what is considered “art” and has grown into a space to showcase my original works of art and designs, with the intention of creating conversations, connectivity, and new perspectives through each piece.

I believe art is simply a creation that inspires emotion and awe, which can be found in everything. It comes down to a person defining what art means to them - their own personal theory on what they perceive.

I hope this brand serves as a reminder that everything is art, but it is up to you to find the art in whatever you choose.
